MG India today laid out all its future plans for India, including the launch of their first car that it will bring to India – a new SUV. MG has also announced that this new SUV will not be a sub 4-meter SUV but will be slightly larger and will have a petrol and diesel engine option. Its main competitor will be Hyundai Creata.  The new SUV will also be made at the Halol plant in Gujarat and will have up to 80 percent localization. The Halol plant itself will go through a major makeover with over Rs 5000 Crore investment planned in the next four to five years. MG is owned by Chinese auto giant SAIC group, which is the seventh largest automaker in the world.

Internationally, the MG RX5 comes with the option of two petrol engines – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. The former is capable of producing 166bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, while the bigger 2.0-litre motor develops 217 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque.
